UniProtKB description:  Toxic component of a type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) system (PubMed:29777131, PubMed:27264868, PubMed:34556858). Acetylates tRNA and inhibits translation, does not acetylate uncharged tRNA (PubMed:27264868, PubMed:29777131). Upon expression in situ acetylates only Gly-tRNA(Gly) (PubMed:35609997). In vitro acetylates mainly Gly and Ile/Leu (PubMed:29777131). Upon induction of the toxin gene in lag phase in rich medium (but not mid-exponential phase) the lag phase is extended by several hours, locking bacteria in a non-growth state (PubMed:27264868, PubMed:29777131). Neutralized only by cognate antitoxin TacA1 (A8), but not by TacA2 or TacA3 (PubMed:27264868, PubMed:34556858). Its toxic effect is neutralized by expression of peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase (pth) in lag phase (PubMed:27264868). NAD-dependent protein deacylase (cobB) also play a role in detoxifying TacT targets (PubMed:27264868). Expression increases persister cell formation, which is also abolished by either cognate antitoxin or Pth expression (PubMed:27264868). Plays a role in persister cell formation (PubMed:24408438).
