RCSB.org is Powered by AWS

The Worldwide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB) partnership hosts the Protein Data Bank (PDB) archive of more than 230,000 experimentally determined 3D structures of biomolecules as part of the Registry of Open Data on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This arrangement allows RCSB PDB, US data center for the wwPDB, to leverage the AWS global infrastructure and services at no cost to the project nor data consumer.
AWS enables rapid data delivery of data files downloaded from RCSB.org (via files.rcsb.org). Cached access to data files is especially fast, by an order of magnitude faster than data served from local servers.
AWS is also used to serve annual snapshots of the PDB archive (in addition to snapshots hosted by PDBj (Japanese data center for the wwPDB). These snapshots provide readily identifiable data sets for research using the PDB archive.
